DATES FOR YOUR DIARY...

In this newsletter issue we focus on some events that we hope will be of interest to you, as follows:

  • ERDAS 2010 & GOOGLE EARTH SEMINAR - 25TH MARCH, Dublin.  See what ERDAS 2010 image processing can do for you; along with the powerful data and multimedia management and SDI engine that is ERDAS APOLLO; and all about Google Earth and its integration with APOLLO.  See full agenda below.
  • COMPASS10 ANNUAL CONFERENCE - 3RD JUNE, Dublin.  A day conference presenting comprehensive information on geomatics applications and technology options. More details here - put the date in your diary!
  • i-SUP2010 - Innovation for Sustainable Production - 18-21 April, Bruges, Belgium.  We will present on our Bioenergy Mapping and Modelling tool.
  • GeoDATA, Dublin 21 April; Cardiff 11 May, Liverpool 13 May, London 20 May.  An opportunity for attendees to hear about our Clear Steps to INSPIRE Compliance portfolio, to view our new spatial video solutions, and our land and asset management solutionsMore on our blog here.

We have just returned from sponsoring and presenting at an international standards meeting of CEN287 in Paris and will provide a report on the meeting on our news blog soon.

Agenda

ERDAS 2010 Introduction - New Look ERDAS Imagine 2010 including ERMapper
ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 is now available and the new ribbon interface gives it an updated look and feel as well as providing easier access to the array of functionality that exists in the software -including incorporation of .alg and image compression in one package.

To be demonstrated during the seminar:

Ø  ERDAS enabling Feature Extraction – As high resolution airborne and satellite data improves in quantity and quality the tools to extract (automatically and semi-automatically) take steps forward.

Ø  ERDAS enabling 3D Visualisation  - For every application from simple public presentations through to real world risk assessment, we are utilising the constant improvement in 3D handling tools.

Ø  Examples will be shown of:

§  Aerial imagery used for building extraction and land cover classification in ERDAS Imagine

§  LIDAR data for building extraction and 3D modelling production flows

§  Height and imagery in windfarm planning

§  Building and imagery for line of site analysis in urban areas

ERDAS APOLLO
As the drive towards OGC Compliance speeds up (not to mention SDI and INSPIRE), and with web services being used increasingly throughout the world for geo-data delivery, APOLLO keeps one step ahead with its ability to not only catalogue and deliver WMS, WFS but also work with data across a network and the web using WCS and WPS services (for more advanced data transformation and modelling).

Ø  Working and running multiple process models on the same static dataset enables geo data production and map delivery to be refined, and drastically reduces the cost of image and map management.

Ø  Examples will be shown of:

§  Gigabytes of image delivery across thin networks

§  Vector Editing across the web via WFS and WFS-T service

§  Publishing of spatial models to the web via WPS, working in the ‘cloud’

Google Earth Enterprise
The ability for organisations to deploy their own Google Earth Enterprise is now possible as Google have made available, through Infoterra’s software unit (Compass partners), the ability to deploy this capability within their own networks.

Ø  Learn about what Google Earth could do for your organisation, with your data and for your users.

Ø  Example will be shown of:

§  Google Earth Enterprise deployed on an internal network with mapping and data deployed for use across an organisation.

INSPIRE RESOURCE WEBSITE AVAILABLE TO ALL - INSPIRE.COMPASS.IE

Alongside a new redesign of the main Compass website, we have developed an INSPIRE Directive information resource.  The site contains news and events from around Europe on Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and INSPIRE topics.  It also contains a 'Resource Library' that collates key documents from the Commission, relevant guidance, and legislation.  The Library is open to all once registered on the site. See inspire.compass.ie.
